Ambulance Base Ardee

Project Area: 500sqm

Contracting Authority: HSE

RIAI Award: Wellbeing 2023

The Ambulance Base sits amongst the mature trees on the Northern edge of St. Joesph’s campus. Approached by a curved access roadway, a concrete plinth elevates the timber clad building by 2 meters to float above the ground plane. The plinth conceals attenuation, rain water harvesting and fire-fighting static water storage tanks.

A strong relationship with the parkland landscape has been established through horizontal form and vertical divisions in the fenestration. The building is clad in Iroko Teak and offers pleasant views through a recessed window plane to the historic landscape. The staff often witness harrowing scenes and the intention has been to promote staff well being and the opportunity for reflection.

The offices, reflection room and kitchen/ dining room all benefit from the southern aspect and immersive views of the woodland edge landscape.
