Loreto School, Bray
Project Stage: Stage 2B
The architectural intent for the redevelopment of Loreto Secondary School, Bray is to deliver a coherent, future-focused educational campus that responds sensitively to its context while providing a high-quality, sustainable learning environment. The design is structured around a three-storey U-shaped building that defines a series of south-facing collegiate courtyards, promoting daylight, passive solar gain and sheltered outdoor spaces for learning, social interaction and wellbeing. The massing is carefully calibrated, with the building set back from the northern boundary to protect neighbouring residential amenity and aligned with the adjacent convent to reinforce an appropriate urban grain.
Phased construction is central to the design approach, enabling the school to remain operational throughout redevelopment and eliminating the need for extensive temporary accommodation. Inclusive design principles inform the layout, with dedicated SEN facilities and protected garden spaces integrated into the heart of the campus. Overall, the design balances functional efficiency, environmental responsibility and a strong sense of place to support contemporary education.
